This is from my dear friend Charles Yurchak, who has been my Chinese astrological adviser for decades. Charles was my right hand man for many years and is a great herbalist. This is from an email message he sent me today...

"This next year of the Water Dragon is most fortunate for those born in the the year of the Boar. Because you are Kind & Generous. There will be extra water this year & the year is 384 days long because there is an extra month of Spring so lots of Growth both of the Good & Bad kind. Lots of fruits & vegetables a great harvest. Unfortunately there will be a lot of negative wood expressions too. Arguments, wars, turmoil, lawsuits, fungus growth, viruses and those sorts of things.

So I wish you & your Loved Ones the Best Year of Good Fortune, Prosperity, & Happiness.

From Ron Teeguarden, relaying an email message from Taoist Grand Master Sung Jin Park....

This is the biggest coincidence and surprise!!! Literally 5 seconds after pressing "Post" to announce my article on the meaning of the Chinese New Year, I received an email message from Taoist Grand Master Sung Jin Park, my great teacher. This is it, only slightly edited (cleaned up English):

"Happy Dragon New Year Master Dan-O Ron and Dear His students,

Best wishes for Dragon Herbs in Lunar Dragon New Year !
(Solar Calendar: 2012/1/23=Lunar Calendar 2012/1/1)
A Long awaited auspicious Dragon New Year has dawned in this morning !

This is the year of Dragon. This Year Dragon means to control the North-Qi energy that belong to wisdom and to avoid wrongdoing and grow in virture and practice the good deeds.

The Auspicious Dragon that hold the lucky Magic Pearl between teeth has always been a symbol of Three Treasures. That is Jung,Qi and Shin in body. It is a truth that The Dragon (that) could not hold the Magic Pearl is imposssible to ascend heaven. Therefore All the people also have to study the Three Treasures for radiant health and enlightment in This Dragon Year, because all the people only waste their Three Treasures energy and do not know how to replenish and recharge Three Treasures in body.

Please give my best regards to your students.

Bless Dragon Herbs with you and your wife on Lunar Dragon Year!

Ron, this music is incredible! I've never heard anything like it. It's like a well contained jamble of unexpected rythms, variations..like biting into a piece of exotic fruit and having the taste suddenly change for only a moment..the range, man, and it's always harmonious. You should release a CD and sell it, seriously, or package it free with all orders of wild reishi so we can trip out to fully to it.

Comment on Shilajit – An “alchemical” substance at the edge of comprehension by ront

Lisa Boots Towner asked: What is the character, smell, color, taste of true Shilajit? I have some from India and would like to test to see if it is real or false..

Ron Teeguarden answered: I have been receiving shilajit for about 15 years. ALL of the shilajit from suppliers that I have known and really trusted is black, strong tasting but a bit sweet, with a typical shilajit taste. Some has been tarry, some has been powder. Shilajit is a VERY ancient superfood. There is lots of fake shilajit and even more low quality shilajit available in India. The fakers are quite capable of making something that looks and smells like the real thing. That stuff is dirty. But I doubt if much of the dirty, really fake stuff gets to America. I think that what gets here in general is medium to low grade, low altitude, heavily cut material. For me, the only true "test," that is, the way to know you're getting legitimate high quality shilajit, is to know your supplier very well and to know that they are either the gatherer or have a reliable gatherer. Of course, shilajit can be lab tested for fulvic acid and other substances. That helps. I would never buy and sell shilajit that has not been lab tested. If it is brown (not dark), it is likely to be lower quality, but I haven't seen or experienced all the shilajit in the world, so there may be some brown shilajit that is pristine and high quality - I've never seen it though. For me though, "dark" is best. The first shilajit I ever got that I know was extremely high quality was from a Bulgarian friend of mine, a remarkable and reliable scientist who discovered the modern usage of Tribulus (herba). He is completely reliable, a real herbalist of the highest order. He brought me back shilajit in tar form from the mountains of east Pakistan. It was wonderfully potent. I tasted it repeatedly for a couple of years and thereby attained a taste for it. From then on, I know what real, pure shilajit should taste like. I have on occasion tasted lower quality shilajit, and in general in the USA that means heavily cut or diluted.

Comment on Tip 31 – Watch Your Karma Very Carefully by ront

Question: Do you take things as "signs' that karma is working? For example if you break your favorite teapot, perhaps it is a sign that you were not cleaning it as often as you should or did not give it the respect it deserves? I like to look at all events as signs or wake up calls for me to begin focusing on the event and how I can make it better, in an ongoing journey to better my karma.

Ron's response: Yes, but don't just take a shallow, cursory look. Be careful with karma, both in creating it and in clearing it. Karma works on different scales and different time periods at the same time. Meditate often and your karma and that of those around you will be revealed. That is one of the great benefits of meditation. But you must achieve stillness to receive such information. The broken tea pot may be because you were a wild child and are going through balancing now, even though you may be very true to a path at this time. So yes, there is instant karma and long term karma. Always feel for both. Always work on both. Things are not always what they seem, but by developing a clear mind and remaining centered you will see the truth.

If nutraceuticals had to be unidirectional to be effective, ginseng, reishi, goji, schizandra, tea, astragalus and gynostemma would not have any benefit. They are ALL double direction herbs. Nature is double direction. It's a universal law. Regulation is the basis of life and survival. Supporting regulation is supporting life. I don't expect everybody to understand the double direction concept. It is beyond the reach of many westerners. So be it. Those who put their faith in a unidirectional model (the old-school western pharmaceutical model) should use TA-65. That's very fine with me, really.

Also, if you would be so kind as to find me a piece of research that demonstrates that the theory that resveratrol actually counteracts astragaloside iv in any real way, I'd appreciate that. I have not been able to find such support literature. I think the theory is just a postulation, but one without substantiation. Also, if the person who dismissed the formula had read my article, they could not be so dismissive. I think I provided some reasonable evidence that resveratrol does not in fact antagonize astragaloside iv. In fact, I believe that people who consume both astragaloside iv and resveratrol will maintain longer, more stable telomeres. Is there proof that I am wrong?

Probably some, but certainly not as completely, unless you have established the correct microbial ecology. Kimchi helps restore those colonies. But I doubt that it is possible to get a more complete ginsenoside profile than from Kinetic Ginseng.
